Osram Sylvania’s winners in the Next Icon LED Design Challenge

December 17, 2009 | By

Osram Sylvania issued a challenge to Canadian lighting manufacturers to design products using LED components and technology supplied by the company. Called The Next Icon LED Design Challenge, Osram says the contest recognizes excellence in LED design solutions.

The fixture prototypes were exhibited to members of the design,
specification and lighting industry at the Light Canada Expo at the
IIDEX design show in Toronto. The winners were chosen through popular
vote.

With an eye to future collaboration, winners were awarded as partners
in three categories. The gold partner is Toronto-based Zaneen with its
SOL wall fixture that uses only 1 watt of energy by utilizing the Osram
HF2X LED. The silver partner is Illumineer, Toronto, with a magnetic
voltage connector called Falkor that can swivel 360Ëš yet maintain a
secure electrical connection. And the bronze partner is TMS Lighting of
Brampton, Ontario, who submitted a Winston entry, a wall-mounted
outdoor fixture featuring the Osram DLM 800 for both uplighting and
downlighting

All submissions had to meet specific requirements to be accepted into
the challenge. Among the submitted entries were concept designs for a
wide range of applications including streetlighting, wall sconces,
pendant and ceiling mounted fixtures for indoor and outdoor
applications.
