January 24, 2018 – “Almost all of the previous recipients were either retired or almost retired when they received this award, and I hope this is not a suggestion that it’s time for me to move on, because I still have things to do,” joked Bob Shapiro when he received EFC’s 2016 Industry Recognition Award, but we have just learned the president of Franklin Empire will retire this December.

“Bob will be greatly missed by the team at Franklin Empire, as well as by his many friends in the industry,” write business partners Bernie Backman and Cliff Backman. “We cannot thank Bob enough for the dedication, passion, enthusiasm, motivation and willingness to mentor that he has given Franklin Empire.”

“As my working career draws to a close, I leave an industry that is much more complex than the one that I started in,” Bob admits, adding, “I am confident that my partners, Bernie and Cliff Backman, will continue to lead Franklin Empire to our future growth and manage the future challenges which face this dynamic industry, along with the fourth generation—Cara, Lisa and Les Backman—and our incredible, hard-working, dedicated and motivated teams across Quebec and Ontario.”

“I am extremely proud and satisfied with what we have accomplished, and with the relationships (friendships) that have been enjoyed over the last 50 years. It has been fun coming to work, because there are so many special people in this industry,” Bob said.
