Raj Batra joins board of directors for Siemens Foundation

October 17, 2018 | By Peter Saunders

October 17, 2018 – Electrical engineer and Siemens Digital Factory president Raj Batra has been elected to the board of directors for the Siemens Foundation, which supports young people in the pursuit of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) careers.

Siemens’ research shows jobs in STEM fields are projected to grow at almost double the rate of non-STEM occupations, making it challenging for employers to find the right talent to fill those positions. In response, the foundation develops programs to help get students interested at middle-skill levels.

“Raj recognizes the need to close the skills gap,” says David Etwziler, the foundation’s CEO. “He is passionate about inspiring youth to meet the needs of our rapidly transforming economy.”

“I am honoured to serve as a board member of this vital foundation,” he says. “Manufacturing is going through a revitalization and it is critical for us to work with community colleges and universities to develop programs for the next generation of engineers, scientists and technicians.”

Having begun his career at Siemens 25 years ago, Batra also serves on the executive advisory board for the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA).
