May 28, 2014 – Like the original Philips SlimStyle bulb, the manufacturer’s new BR30 indoor LED flood has a slim shape that promises the “high-quality, uniform light distribution” of an incandescent floodlight while eliminating a bulky LED heat sink.

In the States, the 9.5W flood will be available online in July and at retail in August, with a MSRP of $12.97 US (we checked, and the bulb will be available in Canada; price as yet unknown). Philips says the BR30 offers an estimated $152 in cost savings over the life of the bulb, and also offers dimming, making it a suitable replacement for 65W incandescents. The 650-lumen bulb, like the SlimStyle A19, leverages its flat surface to conduct heat away from the LEDs.
