September 30, 2015 – Over 250 people came out for the second edition of Connected+ (formerly Home Connect) to hear the latest on home automation, smart energy and take a glimpse into the future.

The two-day conference and exhibition at the MaRs Centre in Toronto featured over 30 speakers who touched on topics like the Internet of Things (IoT), drivers to smart condos, zero UI (user interface), the interoperability challenge, big data analytics and home automation apps and DIY platforms—just to name a few.

“We’re in the era of the connected home. We have to be honest; they’re not smart homes… Not yet”, said Aditya Pendyala, co-founder and head of products at MNUBO.

He added there is an evolving landscape in smart homes today. The waves of big data through the years include: web, social, mobile (what we’re currently experiencing), and the next one is the home, according to Pendyala.

“The smart home is our technology knowing what we need before we do,” said Len Diplock, vice-president of corporate development with Direct Energy.

The “battle of the home” is on, added Konkana Khaund, principal consultant of Energy & Environment with Frost & Sullivan, noting service providers and OEMs are at the forefront.

Exhibitors included Nanoleaf, TrustPoint, Ubiquilux, Algocian, Invixium, Freescale, Somfy, Mircom, Radialpoint, Litmus Automation, Fidure Corp., and more.

EBMag and sister publications Energy Manager and SP&T News are partners with Connected+.
