January 16, 2012 – The Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) is notifying the public that Kaz Canada Inc. has announced a voluntary recall of Honeywell Surround Select Series of HZ-420, HZ-430, and HZ-440 ceramic heaters distributed by Kaz Canada under license from Honeywell. Consumers are advised to stop using the recalled products immediately.
Hazard: The internal housing of the heater can detach, dislocating the heating element, which could penetrate the housing and potentially expose hot parts/or circuitry of the heater. At this time, no incidents or injuries have been reported. The recall involves only the following models of Honeywell Surround Select Series of heaters; no other Honeywell heaters are included in this voluntary recall.
Recall units (model – UPC):
HZ-420 – 092926104207
HZ-420C – 092926004200
HZ-430 – 092926104306
HZ-430C – 092926004309
HZ-440R-WMT – 092926004408
The specific model number can be found on the on the bottom of the heater and will be embossed in the plastic casing. The date codes are important in determining whether the heater qualifies for the recall. The date codes are five digits long, and they can be found on the metal prong of the plug. If the last two digits in your date code are 11, you have the heater that is being recalled.
The units were sold by various retailers in Canada including Rona, Home Hardware and Irly, between July 1, 2011 and December 16, 2011.
Consumer contact: Visit www.kaz.com/recall or call 1-800-370-8137 from 8:30am to 5pm EST Monday through Friday. Affected units are eligible to receive a refund. Consumers are urged not to return the heater back to the store where it was purchased.
