PRODUCT RECALL – Makita G1700i 1700W portable generator

The Electrical Safety Authority is notifying the public that Makita Canada Inc. has announced a voluntary recall of its G1700i 1700W portable gas generators due to fire hazard, as a crack may develop in the neck of the fuel tank and leakage of gasoline may occur.

Consumers are advised to stop using these products immediately, and contact Makita Head Office or a Makita Canada Inc. Factory Service Centre, where they will be instructed to send their generator to the nearest Makita Canada Factory Service Centre to have a newly modified fuel tank installed.

The case colour of the affected product is Makita blue. The affected serial numbers fall within the following ranges: #3000003~#3000688, #3010003~#3021505, #6000001~#6017296, and #8000001~#8004382.

Approximately 677 units have been sold in Canada between September 2003 and February 2009.
