eCompliance’s Hazard Assessment Module empowering workers with safety participation

July 29, 2016 | By Renée Francoeur

July 29, 2016 – eCompliance recently unveiled its new Hazard Assessment Module, a free, cloud-based hazard assessment tool to help companies reduce hazardous risks and protect employees. It can identify, track and communicate workplaces hazards across all sites and job levels.

Since nearly 80% of companies are still using paper processes to measure their safety programs it is very difficult to facilitate and measure worker participation, eCompliance says, and formal and onsite hazard assessments, though necessary, are not being done as it is too time consuming. eCompliance says its hazard assessment software can close these gaps.

This is important now more than ever, eCompliance says, because:

• Since January 1, 2016, the Certificate of Recognition (COR) is becoming increasingly mandated to bid on construction and infrastructure projects in Ontario, and across the county. Many organizations fail the hazard assessment during the COR audit.
• Since January 11, 2016, a new Canadian legal precedence has been set—holding employers criminally liable who do not take reasonable steps to prevent their workers from being injured or killed on the job.
• According to the Occupational Health and Safety Code, an employer must involve affected workers in the hazard assessment process and in the controlling or eliminating of hazards.

Prior to the official launch, the University of Alberta—which played a role in initiating the development of the hazard assessment software—along with other universities and colleges tested the tool to ensure it would be effective.
