Colour-coded, modular plug-in and DIN-rail mounted design with voltage rejection feature and easyID visual indication makes the new Cooper Bussmann surge protective device (SPD) simple to identify, install and maintain. As the first UL1449 3rd Edition-recognized SPD for DC photovoltaic applications (in addition to IEC61643-11 compliance), it is simple to specify for solar power applications globally, asserts Cooper. Built-in, fast-acting short-circuit interruption (SCI) technology for 600vDC, 1000vDC and 1200vDC systems safely shunts damaging surges and overvoltages to ground. This capability also eliminates the need for additional fuses or overcurrent protection and associated panel space, says Cooper, providing PV users complete protection “at substantial cost savings”. The IP20 finger-safe SPD was designed with a voltage rejection feature to prevent misapplication, and colour-coded it for correct PV application.COOPER BUSSMANN

The Grace Employee Monitor (GEM) from Grace Industries aims to solve the problem of employees working alone or in a remote area who may be rendered unconscious or incapacitated and have no way to call for help. GEM employs a small battery-operated transmitting alarm unit that is worn by the employee; this device detects lack of motion so that, should a worker stop moving for up to 120 seconds (30-60-90-120), he is given a pre-alert for eight seconds, then the alarm device emits a 95 db audio alarm and sends a radio signal back to the receiver (up to 3/4 mi. line of sight). Use of a remote antenna and repeaters will allow the unit to cover any size of facility.CANADIAN SAFETY EQUIPMENT
