August 28, 2013 - Ditch Witch says its new RT120 Quad utility tractor boasts the “power, heavy-duty frame and traction necessary” for long installations of large-diameter pipe on “challenging jobsites”. The RT120 is built around a heavy-duty undercarriage with a frame engineered to tilt, enabling it to dig a vertical trench on uneven ground. Each track frame (incl. track) weighs 1500 lb, which promises a lower centre of gravity for increased stability and drawbar. The chevron-patterned tracks also promise maximum traction in wet conditions and on slopes. The unit features ground clearance of 15.5 in., enabling it to maneuver well around bar ditches, creek beds and uneven terrain. The four-wheel-drive RT120 is equipped with a three-speed, shift-on-the fly transmission, and standard rear steering for a tighter turn radius. The machine offers several attachments for a range of tasks, including a combination trencher/plow, individual plow, backhoe, reel carrier, two types of saw, and two types of trencher attachments.
August 20, 2013 - Nissan announced it will offer a newly developed Cummins 5.0L V8 turbo-diesel engine in its next-generation full-size Titan pickup. “Truck owners told us there’s a demand for the performance and torque of a diesel in a capable truck that doesn’t require the jump up to a heavy-duty commercial pickup,” said Fred Diaz, divisional vice-president, Nissan Sales & Marketing, Service & Parts, Nissan North America. (Diaz was formerly with Ram. Check out his comments below.) With a torque rating in the mid-500 lb-ft and over 300 hp, the engine promises to provide light truck customers a good combination of towing capacity and mileage. The company says it is not announcing launch dates at this time.

July 10, 2013 - Champion Oil announced a new fuel economy calculator for diesel fleets, which is aimed at promoting the capabilities of its newest oil. “Champion’s online fuel economy calculator helps fleet operators and drivers determine the potential savings that can be achieved by using a new lower viscosity heavy-duty motor oil,” said Karl Dedolph, fleet specialist. Champion says its SAE 5W-30 UltraFleet heavy-duty diesel motor oil reduces engine wear and corrosion while maintaining viscometric properties, and provides enhanced protection to engine and exhaust system components. The oil is formulated with a friction modifier system that enables it to reduce internal drag within engines, maximizing power output. Plus, says Champion, the new oil has a 50% faster time to pressurization than a traditional SAE 15W-40, leading to faster lubrication of valve train hardware and emissions system components.
July 4, 2013 - Patlite’s new LFH Series LED warning lights produce a 110 flashes-per-minute strobe beacon light suitable for industrial applications, boasting daytime, and nighttime visibility of 3,280 ft. (1,000 m). The LEDs are available in four operating voltages (12, 24, 48 VDC, and 90-250 VAC). The company says DC models offer a 90m/s2 (9G) vibration resistance rating. All models are adaptive to mount in an upright, inverted or sideways orientation. The lights have a 100 x 100 mm mounting surface footprint, and are 143.5 mm tall. The refractive lens covers are available in five colours: red, yellow, green, blue and clear. For wet environments, the LFH is water resistance per IP66 (IEC606529) when installed in the upright position. DC models are rated for operation in -30C to 70C ambient temperatures; AC models are rated for -20C to 60C. All models are CE certified, UL 1638 listed, RoHS compliant (directive EN50581), CAN/ULC-S526-M87 UL, FCC certification Part 15 Subpart B Class A) and NEMA Type 4, 4X,13.
