May 4, 2016 – Ford has issued a recall for its 2011 F150 truck models due to a powertrain issue.
On some of the vehicles equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission there may be an intermittent loss of the transmission output-shaft speed sensor (OSS) signal to the power control module, Ford says. This could potentially cause an unintended downshift into first gear, which depending on vehicle speed at the time of the downshift, may cause the rear tires to slide or lock up until the vehicle slows.
The company says dealers have been instructed to reprogram the powertrain control module with updated software to fix the issue.
