RECALL: Amprobe recalls AM-540 and AM-550 DMMs
May 23, 2012 | By Anthony Capkun
May 23, 2012 – Amprobe has announced a voluntary recall of its AM-540 and AM-550 digital multimeters. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately.
No units have been sold in Canada. However, as units are approved for sale in Canada, there may be some present in the Canadian market.
The hazard: an error in production has resulted in a potential safety issue where the meter may not withstand the energy of transient overvoltage in a Category III/IV environment. This could cause the meter to explode or generate an arc that could harm the user.
There have been no incidents or injuries thus far. The DMMs were distributed between January 1, 2012 to March 31, 2012, and were manufactured in China.
Visit Amprobe for further information.
