RECALL: SafePlug 1202 controlled duplex-receptacle due to fire hazard

May 21, 2020 | By Anthony Capkun

May 21, 2020 – Health Canada is advising you to dispose of your SafePlug Model 1202-9962, as the device may overheat, causing charring to the internal components and posing a fire hazard.

The Model 1202-9962 is a controlled duplex-receptacle with ZigBee Smart Energy Profile (SEP). It is used to monitor and manage energy use, and has remote control applications. A CSA 23670 certification mark can be found on the back of the product.

As of May 1, 2020, the company has received 5 reports of overheating, and no reports of injuries in Canada.

Approx. 2075 units were sold in Canada from May 2018 to May 2019. They were manufactured in the United States by 2D2C Inc. (Lincolnshire, Ill.).

(Unfortunately, it seems the company is no longer in business, so your only remedy is disposal.)

Remember: the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act prohibits recalled products from being redistributed, sold or even given away in Canada.
