RECALL: Software on 2016 Sierra and Silverado truck models

February 16, 2016 | By Renée Francoeur

February 16, 2016 – Health Canada reports that GM has issued a recall on the 2016 Sierra and Silverado truck models due to an electrical system issue.

The company claims that certain vehicles may fail to conform to Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 114 – Theft Protection and Rollaway Protection, and CMVSS 208 – Occupant Protection In Frontal Impacts. The radio software may intermittently fail to provide an audio warning when a key is left in the ignition and the driver door is opened, GM says, or when the driver forgets to put on their seat belt, which is contrary to the requirements of the standard.

To fix the issue, GM says dealers will reflash the radios with corrected software.
