RECALL: Stanley Black & Decker Canada drills

January 10, 2019 | By Peter Saunders

January 10, 2019 – CSA Group reports Stanley Black & Decker Canada recently recalled certain models of its hammer drills and drill/drivers, following a report of injury in the U.S.

More than 18,000 of the units, marketed under the Porter-Cable and Black & Decker brands, were sold in Canada from January 2010 to July 2018. Each features a black side handle that attaches to the front of the drill (see photos), but according to Health Canada, there is an identified hazard in that the handle may slip when the drill is in use, leading to loss of control and posing a risk of injury.

The recall became effective Nov. 1, 2018. As of Oct. 23, 2018, the company had received no reports of incidents or injuries within Canada. For full details, click here.

More recently, the company has also recalled DeWalt DWD110 and DWD112 variable speed reversing drills, as the internal wiring can come into contact with other parts, posing a risk of electrical shock. As of January 7, 2019, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada from these products, which were sold from September 2017 to November 2018.
