June 2, 2020 – Health Canada has issued a recall notice for Taurus-branded safety shoes because the steel plate used in the shoe is not CSA-certified as indicated.

The recall involves black leather upper, 5-in. high Taurus safety shoes, Style No. 5001. The shoe has a white rectangle Omega logo and the tongue has a green CSA triangle logo. The style number is located on the product’s packaging.

Because the steel plate is not certified to CSA standards, it’s anyone’s guess as to whether it will provide any protection when needed.

Thankfully, as of May 19, 2020, the company has received no reports of injury in Canada. Approximately 1945 units of the affected product were sold in Canada from April 2019 to April 2020.

Manufactured in China, the shoes are distributed by Taurus Footwear of North York, Ont.

Consumers should stop using the recalled shoes and contact Taurus Footwear for replacements at 416-270-1988.

Remember: the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act prohibits recalled products from being redistributed, sold or even given away in Canada.
