October 16, 2020 – In a joint recall with Health Canada and the U.S. CPSC, Petzl is recalling various low-stretch kernmantle ropes, which may have a deep cut or tape securing two ends of rope together.

Affected ropes may fail while in use, posing a fall and injury hazard to the user.

This recall involves ropes designed for both recreational use (e.g. climbing, caving) and professional use (e.g. work-at-height, difficult access, technical rescue). The ropes have a nylon core and polyester sheath material.

The affected products have serial numbers:

between 18 C 0000000 000 and 20 H 0000000 000

The model name and serial number can be found on the label affixed to each end of the rope.

Recreational-use rope models

Segment – 8 mm diameter
Club 200 – 10 mm diameter
Push 200 – 9 mm diameter

Professional-use rope models

Axis – 11 mm diameter
Parallel – 10.5 mm diameter
Vector – 12.5 mm diameter
Ray – 12 mm diameter
ASAP’ AXIS – 11 mm diameter

As of September 19, the company has received two reports of product defects in Canada, and no reports of injuries. In the United States, the company has received no reports of product defects, and no reports of injuries.

2540 units of the affected products were sold in Canada, and 14,850 sold in the U.S., between March 2018 to June 2020.

The ropes were manufactured in France.

Consumers should immediately stop using these ropes and inspect them according to the procedure found on the Petzl website.
