August 26, 2016 – In a joint recall with Health Canada and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Cree Inc. is recalling a 48-in. LED replacement lamp for traditional indoor 2-pin T8s.

The recalled lamps can overheat and melt, posing a burn hazard. Cree has received four reports of failure events related to the use of these products in Canada, and two reports of consumer-related failure events in the States. No injuries have been reported to Health Canada or CPSC.

About 670 of the recalled products were sold to consumers in Canada through The Home Depot Canada, while about 31,905 units were sold to consumers in the States. They were sold between September 2015 and May 2016.

The recall involves Cree LED T8 Replacement Lamps—including lamps that were provided as free replacements for a previous recall we told you about in June 2015—and new lamps sold since the recall.

Also, a 4-digit date code is printed beneath the statement “Compatible with Instant Start, Rapid Start and Dimmable Electronic Ballasts”.

• Model Number BT848-17040FLW-BDG13-2C200

• Date Codes 06/15, 07/15, 08/15, 09/15, 10/15, 11/15, 12/15, 01/16, 02/16, 03/16, 04/16, 05/16

The affected products were manufactured in the United States and China (Huizhou Light Engine Ltd.).
