RECALL: Chrysler’s 2007 Sprinter for airbags

April 25, 2016 | By Renée Francoeur

March 15, 2017 – Transport Canada has announced an expansion on a previous recall from Chrysler on its 2007 Sprinter vehicles due to airbag deployment concerns.

On certain vehicles, the driver frontal airbag inflator could produce excessive internal pressure during deployment, Chrysler states. Increased pressure may cause the inflator to rupture, which could allow fragments to be propelled toward vehicle occupants, increasing the risk of injury, it adds. This could also damage the airbag module, which could prevent proper deployment.

Dealers will replace the front driver air bag module to correct this issue.

About 5448 units are thought to be affected, Transport Canada reports.
