NB Power extends deadline for community renewable energy projects to June 2017
May 1, 2017 - NB Power’s deadline for project submissions under the Community Renewable Energy – Local Entities Opportunity has been extended to 3 p.m. on June 30, 2017. The original deadline was April 28. The Locally-Owned Renewable Energy Small Scale ProgramCommunity Renewable Energy – Local Entities Opportunity allows for municipalities, co-operatives and not-for profit organizations to integrate small-scale renewable energy projects onto the provincial power grid.
The program was launched in January and calls for the production of 40MW of electricity from renewable resources such as hydro, biomass, wind and solar energy. A maximum of 20MW can be owned by one or more local entity, or 40MW can be owned by two or more local entities, if they are located on the same site. The generation will be added to the transmission system at 69 KV or above, according to NB Power.
The utility says the deadline extension stemmed from feedback from potential participants during public information sessions held throughout the province in March involving officials from NB Power and the Department of Energy and Resource Development.
