January 27, 2016 – Ontario Power Generation (OPG) reports it has starting the decommissioning planning process at the Nanticoke Generating Station site, and is preparing for construction of the Nanticoke Solar Project in 2018.

Decommissioning includes the removal of buildings to “brownfield” the site. It will take about a year to remove—and, where possible, salvage—equipment and materials from the main powerhouse.

Removal of the main buildings likely won’t occur until 2018; however, smaller buildings and structures will be removed over the coming year.

The site and lands adjacent to the site will become the future home of a 44MW solar facility, being developed by Nanticoke Solar LP.
