January 12, 2016 (updated February 10, 2016) – Horizon Utilities and Mohawk College have teamed up to bring energy conservation and electrical safety to life!

Mohawk College students enrolled in the Graphic Design Production – Integrated Animation course have produced “attention-grabbing” videos to help Horizon Utilities’ customers stay safe, conserve energy and save money.

“This project is an exciting opportunity for Horizon Utilities to harness the creativity and talent of Mohawk College students to help us promote conservation and safety in a new, exciting format,” said Eileen Campbell, vice-president of customer services. “We are proud to be the first company chosen by Mohawk to collaborate on this initiative.”

Horizon Utilities said it was impressed with the quality of the animations submitted, leading to the idea for a contest to reward students and maximize exposure. Michelle Vuk was the contest winner, winning the most online votes from the public for her video titled “The Mentor, Powerline Safety”.

“Working with Horizon Utilities as a ‘real-world client’ has been both challenging and rewarding. The experience and exposure the students receive from this collaboration will certainly help them on their way to their future careers,” said David Carson, co-ordinator/professor of Integrated Animation at Mohawk College.
