Schaffner releases ECOsine FN3418 passive harmonic filters

November 16, 2015 | By Renée Francoeur

November 16, 2015 – Schaffner has introduced ECOsine 60 Hz passive harmonic filters, which remove harmful harmonics of a pre-determined order, to increase the reliability of supplied power, and thus extend the service life of downstream components, the company says.

Schaffner passive harmonic filters are ideal for use with non-linear loads such as motor drives (nominally 5 HP to 250 HP), equipment with front-end 6-pulse rectifiers, fans, pumps, HVAC equipment, DC fast chargers, and more, Schaffner says.

Designed to operate at 98% efficiency and installed at the typical three phase voltage of 480 VAC (+/- 10%), at 60 Hz (+/- 1 Hz), these products reduce harmonics to 7-10% THDi, and comply with IEEE-519, table 10-3, according to Schaffner. As not all applications require a THDi of <5%, the FN3418 filter design is a more economical approach for the mitigation of harmonics, it adds.
