December 8, 2017 — Silfab Solar and Morgan Solar Inc. have partnered to develop and produce a low-cost PV module designed for large commercial and utility-scale projects.  

“This agreement brings together the forward-thinking technologies and design of Morgan Solar with the highly efficient and high-volume production capabilities of Silfab. The commercial and utility solar industries will realize significant cost savings with lower capital investment, and superior quality for many years,” said Mike Andrade, CEO of Morgan Solar Inc.

The companies say the partnership highlights advancements they have made in using advanced low concentration optics into a standard solar module, manufactured using standard processes. Low concentration modules use less silicon in the manufacturing process than conventional modules, and generate a similar amount of electricity, the parties say. Reduced cells and silicon use per-module can reduce overall module costs by as much as 30%, they add.

Morgan Solar developed the SimbaX Concentrated Photovoltaic (CPV) module and Savanna dual-axis tracker. The company recently received an investment from the Canadian government through the Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC) for development of the SimbaX panel and the SPOTlight panel.
