Skilled Trades & Technology Week 2011 kicks off next week!

October 27, 2011 | By Anthony Capkun

October 26, 2011 – From October 31 to November 7, Skills/Compétences Canada (S/CC) is hosting and promoting events across the country to raise awareness of skilled trades and technical careers to youth.

The annual Skilled Trades & Technology Week in Canada is an initiative to focus the attention of the nation on the importance of skilled trades to our economy and our country’s future. During this week, S/CC’s provincial/territorial offices across the country will host events to promote skilled trades to the Canadian public, employers and, specifically, Canadian youth.

Skilled trades and technical careers are important for our economy, insists S/CC, adding they are an excellent career path. However, many young Canadians either don’t know what trade or technical careers are, nor what they entail. This week of events and information will provide young Canadians a glance into what career options are available.

Focusing attention on the value of skilled trades careers in this manner through a coordinated national grassroots effort will help highlight the opportunity in these career areas, says S/CC, and may spark the interest of young people and employers to look at these careers in a new way.
