April 17, 2013 – Soraa is offering its new Vivid 2 and Premium 2 LED MR16 lamp lines as replacements for 65W and 75W halogens, available for both 12V and line voltages. Company CEO Eric Kim says these lamp lines—which use gallium-nitride on gallium-nitride (GaN on GaN) LEDs—“produce full visible spectrum light and consume 80% to 85% less energy” than halogens. The company credits the GaN on GaN technology for allowing them to create an MR16 lamp design that uses a single LED light source and a simple heat sink, and allows it to operate at lamp temperatures of up to 120C. Vivid 2 has a CRI of 95 and R9 of 95, and is available in a suite of beam angles, colour temperatures and lumen outputs. Premium 2 has a CRI of 80 and is available in multiple beam angles and colour temperatures. Both will soon be available for line voltage fixtures.
