Strattec designs i-Guard anti-theft solution for equipment

February 4, 2014 | By Alyssa Dalton

February 4, 2014 – Strattec Security Corp. has released i-Guard, an anti-theft solution developed specifically for the construction, fleet and rental equipment industries.

A theft-deterrent system now available for heavy equipment, the i-Guard system is a radio-frequency identification (RFID) electronic immobilizer system that can “literally safeguard costly machinery of any size from unauthorized use”, says the company. A unique electronic code is programmed into the engine module and into a chip in the key or fob, and is transmitted between the two components by a small antenna through “difficult-to-mimic” radio frequencies. When a key is inserted into the ignition or a fob used with a push-start button, the vehicle requests authorization. If the engine and key/fob codes do not match, the vehicle will not start. According to the company, along with keeping equipment from being stolen, the system helps lower insurance costs, while reducing workforce downtime and project delays.
