Aug. 6 – The 45th WordSkills Competition will be held in Kazan, Russia, from Aug. 22 to 27, putting the skills of young electricians and other professionals from around the world to the test in a performance comparison of non-academic occupations. The event aims to raise awareness of the importance of first-class vocational training.

In what is reportedly the largest event of its kind, close to 1,400 participants from 60 countries—selected through their own regional and national skills competitions—will view for the title of world champion in 56 vocational skill categories, from industrial control to hairdressing, at the newly built Kazan Expo International Exhibition Centre, which is expected to accommodate 250,000 visitors.

Sponsors will provide equipment for a number of the disciplines, as well as pre-competition advice and assistance. By way of example, gold partner Siemens, which has been involved in the biennial event since 2011, is a designated skills supplier this year for the junior electrical installation category.
