December 13, 2011 | By Anthony Capkun
December 12, 2011 – TÜV SÜD America (part of the global TÜV SÜD testing, inspection and certification organization) has expanded battery testing capabilities in its Newmarket, Ont., and Auburn Hills, Mich., lab facilities. The expansion includes:
• Increased 100-amp cell channels capacity from 72 to 144.
• Increased the number of pack cyclers to 19, with the addition of another AeroVironment AV 900.
• 10 additional reach-in thermal chambers.
• Three new walk-in thermal chambers.
“We are excited about the expansion and the ability to better serve our customers. With several additional expansion phases planned over the next 12 months, we want to ensure the facilities will meet the future needs of our customers and not just their current requirements,” stated Darryl Fleger, general manager of TÜV SÜD Canada. “Battery technology is evolving quickly and we need to work very closely with our partners as we grow our global testing capabilities.”
Both the 21,000-sf Newmarket facility along with the newly renovated 17,000-sf Auburn Hills facility are fully ISO/IEC 17025 A2LA-accredited to provide abuse, durability, performance and life cycle testing of battery cells, modules and packs.
