UL safety certification for GE commercial & industrial smart meters
December 16, 2014 | By Anthony Capkun
December 16, 2014 – GE’s Digital Energy business says its commercial and industrial smart meters have achieved a voluntary UL safety certification, adding that they are the first meters of this type in the industry to receive this mark.
“This UL certification demonstrates our ongoing commitment to safety, and highlights the progress we’re making to ensure our customers are equipped to build modern and efficient grids while adhering to the highest safety standards,” said Edward Myszka, general manager, meters, GE’s Digital Energy business. By meeting the new UL certification for commercial and industrial meters, GE says it can provide its customers with an added level of confidence surrounding the quality and functionality of their smart meter installations. Smart meter technology can improve customer service and reliability through features like automatic outage reporting (which accelerates restoration of service), says GE, and empowers consumers by allowing them the opportunity to better manage their energy use.
