UL Warnings for Potentially Hazardous Products

June 24, 2008 | By Anthony Capkun

Underwriters Laboratories has recently issued several warnings about potentially hazardous electrical products you may come across. In all instances, stop using the product and follow the appropriate action information.

Wall-mounted heater

Wall-mounted
heaters manufactured by Econo-Heat may pose a risk of fire. Model 0601,
manufactured between November 2005 and January 2006, by Econo-Heat
(Cape Town, South Africa), has shown to have electrical connections
that may not be properly secured, causing them to overheat and pose a
risk of fire.

To identify the product

The heaters bear a nameplate with an unauthorized UL Mark for Canada and the United States and the following information:

Electric fence controller

An
electric fence controller manufactured by Horizont Geraetewerk
(Korbach, Germany) may pose a risk of electric shock. These fence
controllers do not comply with UL and Canadian requirements and are not
eligible to bear the UL Mark for Canada or the United States. UL
figures about 402 of the “HotShock 600” units were manufactured. They
allow moisture to enter the enclosure, which could wet internal
electrical components and pose an electric shock risk.

To identify the product

The
product has a label identifying it as HotShock 600. The label also has
an unauthorized UL Mark for Canada and the United States and serial
numbers that range from 1843767 through 1895860.

Stop using the product immediately and return it to the place of purchase.

the pumps were manufactured, nor by whom.
