May 25, 2016 – Niagara-on-the-Lake Hydro (NOTLH) is taking an interesting, hands-on approach to studying the impact electric vehicle (EV) charging has and will have on the grid and how to successfully monitor and balance that load.

As part of the recent Energy Summit 2016 in Niagara Falls, EBMag attended an on-site tour with NOTLH to get a better look at its IEVCS (Intelligent Electric Vehicle Charging Solution) project, funded by the Ministry of Energy Ontario under the Smart Grid Fund. The project is a collaboration between Tech Mahindra, NOTLH and San Diego Gas & Electric (SDGE), Melinda Clarke, the project manager, told us and will demonstrate the effects of electric vehicle charging on transformers by creating a real time transformer monitoring and analytics solution.
