VIDEO: Electrified sewage—power from wastewater

July 31, 2013 – Wastewater flushed down toilets and sinks is getting new life thanks to fuel cells that use it to produce electricity. That, according to the latest video in the American Chemical Society’s Bytesize Science series. In the video, Bruce E. Logan, Ph.D., explains how bacteria in the fuel cells feed on organic matter in wastewater to produce electrons.
