VIDEO: Mersen tackles solar PV electrocution hazard

December 14, 2013 | By Anthony Capkun

December 14, 2013 – Mersen has extended its HelioProtection program with an electronic protection system against electrocution hazards on solar photovoltaic (PV) installations. While at CanSIA’s annual Solar Conference, Mersen expert Thierry Arnaud explained this new-to-Canada solution.

The solution provides an individual remotely controlled shutdown feature per PV module thanks to an electronic card called GreenEye, embedded in the junction box on the back of each PV module or in an add-on junction box. In case of urgent shutdown, the output current and voltage of the PV module falls to zero. Operating on the PV installation is rendered safe during construction and maintenance and, in case of fire, eliminates risk of electrocution for firefighters.
