In Sept. 2010, Schneider Electric conducted an exclusive “Editors’ Event” for North American media. This video contains clips from the “Energy Management Panel”. Moderated by Schneider’s Global Chief Marketing Officer, Aaron Davis, the panelists included:
Underwriters Laboratories Canada celebrated 90 years in Canada in 2010. EBMag visited ULC’s compound in Toronto, where ULC conducted tours and inaugurated a new photovoltaic system.
EBMag took its camera to NTEA’s Work Truck Show, capturing product launches and generally neat products from Ford, GM, Navistar, GM, Nissan and more.
EBMag took its camera to Light Canada at IIDEX/Neocon and chatted with some of the leaders in lighting, including Osram Sylvania, Stanpro, Beghelli, Ruud/BetaLED, Hubbell Lighting, Traxon and Acuity. There are numerous lighting technologies to explore, not the least of which is LED.
Panduit invited Electrical Business/Energy Management to the official opening of its new world headquarters, a building inspired by the company’s Unified Physical Infrastructure approach. Energy Mgmt’s editor, John Gilson, delivers this report, which includes Panduit’s Jack Tison and Vineeth Ram.
The William Lyon Mackenzie is a fireboat for the Toronto Fire Services. Recently, Vickery Electric came on the scene to upgrade the boat’s electrical systems and, after checking it out, you’ll see why this is such specialized work.
After checking out the 2009 Solar Conference put on by CanSIA, the main takeaways for us at EBMag were these: a lot of people out there still don’t quite understand everything that’s involved with PV systems (hence the importance of attending CanSIA’s conference); and that, where there is current, the job requires qualified electrical professionals.
The Earth Rangers Centre—which aims to incorporate and validate the latest in green technologies—recently celebrated the completion of its wastewater and energy monitoring projects, recognizing Schneider Electric for its $375,000-worth donation of TAC building automation hardware and software, power monitoring and energy management tools, and PowerLink/Clipsal Lighting Controls.

EBMag “It’s Your Business” columnist, Ron Coleman (noted author, speaker and certified management consultant), explains the traits common to all well-performing contractors. Visit www.ronaldcoleman.ca.
EBMag’s editor, Anthony Capkun, interviews Rui Cunha, director of operations at the Pre-Apprenticeship Training Institute (PAT). The occasion? PAT staff and students were involved in the erection of a new wind turbine.
Electrical Business reporter, Carolyn Yates, travelled to WorldSkills in Calgary with videographer, Jim Stubbington, to catch the action and learn more about “The Olympics” of the skilled trades.
