VIDEO – Durham York Energy Centre ground-breaking ceremony

August 30, 2011 | By Anthony Capkun

EBMag was there to cover the official groundbreaking ceremony in August 2011 for the new Durham York Energy Centre (DYEC), which is located in the Municipality of Clarington (Ontario). Among the dignitaries were: Durham regional chair and CEO Roger Anderson; York Region chair and CEO Bill Fisch; and Anthony J. Orlando, president and CEO of Covanta Energy—the company that will build and operate the facility.

Although prevented from accessing the ceremony, anti-incinerator protesters nonetheless made their point by blocking cars trying to leave the event, letting through only one car every five minutes. A large police force was there to keep them (and EBMag editor, Anthony Capkun) in check. Check out the NEWS ITEM here.
