November 12, 2013 – Western Star Truck’s 4800SB all-wheel drive (AWD) model is now available in an 8×8 axle configuration, providing additional traction for off-road conditions.

The 4800SB 8×8 AWD is equipped with a two-speed transfer case, which promises “excellent gradability” and is ideal for low- and high-speed operations. Spec’d with a 57,000 lb tridem rear and a 23,000 lb front axle, the 4800SB 8×8 AWD model is suitable for customers operating digger derricks and other specialized heavy equipment. Additionally, the transfer case is equipped with integral air shift controls for front axle engagement, and features helical gears with constant mesh to minimize operating noise. The truck is available with power ratings from 350 hp to 470 hp and 1250 lb-ft to 1650 lb-ft of torque.
