May 21, 2015 – The Yukon Development Corp. (YDC) has awarded three contracts for the planning and permitting work required to rebuild and upgrade transmission infrastructure between Stewart Crossing and Keno City in central Yukon.

Contracts for engineering and design have been awarded to Chimax Inc. for the transmission line, and Magna IV Engineering for substation work. Morrison Hershfield has been contracted for the project assessment and permitting work. Yukon Energy will manage the contracts.

“Working with Yukon Energy to advance this preliminary engineering design and permitting work is an important step for this project,” said Brad Cathers, the minister responsible for YDC. “This work is an important step in replacing and upgrading this electrical infrastructure, which is at the end of its functional life.”

The Yukon government is providing up to $5.3 million to YDC for this work. It said additional funding will be identified when the project moves to the construction phase.
