Zebra back-contact solar cell achieves 21% efficiency

July 24, 2012 | By Alyssa Dalton

July 24, 2012 – Silfab Spa (Italy) and the International Solar Energy Research ‐ ISC Konstanz (Germany) say they have achieved 21% efficiency on Zebra, a monocrystalline silicon large area solar back-contact solar cell, using a low cost industrial process. The Zebra cell concept is based on large area (156 mm x 156 mm) n‐type monocrystalline (Cz) silicon wafers and is a back‐contact, back‐junction cell, without any metallization on the sunny side, they add. As result of the partnership, the cell and module manufacturing pilot line will be implemented in the next few months.
