GALLERY – CANEW Canadian Airports National Electrical Workshop (September 2012) St. John’s, Nfld.

September 26, 2012 | By Anthony Capkun

What an excellent time we had in St. John’s with the folks attending CANEW 2012 (Canadian Airports National Electrical Workshop). As first-time delegates, we didn’t know what to expect, but these airport electricians are true professionals, through and through. (Photos A. Capkun)

Their trade is particularly unique, owing to the uniqueness of the systems they work on. For example, who knew runway lighting is on series rather parallel circuits? Discussions revolved around the technologically advanced, such as PAPI (precision approach path indicator) to the basics, such as keeping critters out of the electrical system.

Big thanks to Murray Ames of Campbell River Airport, and the rest of the directors of the Canadian Airports Electrical Association (CAEA), for making EBMag’s visit possible.
