Hitachi Cable Manchester introduced a gel-free outside plant fiber optic cable. The Mojave line—available with 12 to 432 strands of optical fiber—consists of 250µ optical fibers (Corning glass standard) housed within buffer tubes that employ aramid yarns impregnated with super absorbent polymers (SAP) for water blocking. Outside the buffer tubes, additional SAP-impregnated yarns are used to prohibit water migration. The cable core is protected by a moisture- and fungus-resistant polyolefin outer jacket. Fiber options include all multimode and singlemode glass types. Mojave cables are also available with corrugated armour, and all constructions are compatible with all connectors intended for loose-tube 250µ glass.
