Lion and Synop to provide “market-leading energy management solution” for EV customers

November 22, 2023 | By Anthony Capkun

November 22, 2023 – The Lion Electric Company—a manufacturer of electric medium- and heavy-duty vehicles—has partnered with Synop to offer vehicle, charging, and energy management solutions.

“We’re excited to partner with Synop to provide our customers with a market-leading energy management solution,” said Marie Bedard, director, Lion Ecosystem. “This collaboration offers our customers a highly advanced energy management software that further builds upon Lion’s robust Ecosystem portfolio.”

Through this partnership, smart charging and energy management will be integrated with Lion’s telematics (LionBeat) so that fleet operators can control the end-to-end process of charging and fleet management on a single platform, explained a Synop spokesperson.

“The integrated system removes the complexities involved in scaling an EV fleet by automating charge session scheduling, providing flexibility around charger selection, as well as tracking and managing energy costs,” continued the spokesperson. “This gives Lion users an unprecedented capacity to control charging operations across entire fleets, as well as at their depot, and all while bundled with their vehicle purchase.”

By leveraging Synop’s APIs,* Lion says it is equipping electric school buses and trucks with a single interface that allows clients to see all the data and details needed to manage their assets.

Additionally, Synop’s technology can provide Lion customers with added revenue through its vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology. By automating energy management that prioritizes charging at lower-cost, off-peak hours, Synop’s software provides customers with the ability to sell energy back to the grid at a higher price during peak hours.

“Synop will act as the charger-side energy management system which supports revenue generation by sending energy stored in Lion’s batteries to the grid, as well as by prioritizing charging during certain hours of the day when electricity is cheapest,” added the Synop spokesperson. “This will now be part of LionBeat’s ecosystem, which is the advanced vehicle telemetry system deployed on thousands of vehicles on the road today.”

Synop will be integrated with LionBeat, but will also be available as an add-on solution for non-LionBeat subscribers.
