Manitoba Hydro and Xcel Energy extend power agreement

June 2, 2010 | By

Manitoba Hydro and Xcel Energy have enhanced and extended a power purchase agreement by 10 years. Building on an energy trading relationship that spans over three decades, the 350MW seasonal diversity agreement “allows for an exchange of electricity between the utilities” based on an American summer peak and a Manitoban winter peak. The sale starts in 2015 and will extend to 2025.

Under the agreement, Xcel Energy will purchase 375-500 MW of power from
Manitoba Hydro. The two companies have had previous power sales, including
the recent 2005 sale where 500 MW of power will be sold during the
10-year agreement.
