RECALL: DVI Lighting’s semi-flush mounted medium base luminaires, sold 2003-2016

March 2, 2017 | By Renée Francoeur

March 2, 2017 – Health Canada has followed Interk’s warning and issued a recall for DVI Lighting’s semi-flush mounted medium base luminaires intended for use with maximum two 100W “Type A” lightbulbs.

The luminaire wiring may overheat if the lightbulbs are too close to or in contact with the wiring, resulting in a possible short-circuit and potential fire, Health Canada reports.

As of February 2017, DVI Lighting has received one report of short-circuiting in Canada, and no report of injury.

Some products, which were manufactured in China, were not assembled with an approved 2x100W medium base cluster. The non-approved cluster may allow the wires to either come into contact with the light bulbs or violate the UL/CSA standard of coming within two in of the bulbs. This can cause overheating.

Health Canada has not received any reports of consumer or complaints related to the use of these products.

About 48,000 units of the affected products were sold in Canada between 2003 and 2016 at various retailers and online sellers.
