Canadian Apprenticeship Service program explained – video

By Anthony Capkun

You’ve likely seen and heard a lot about the federal government’s apprenticeship incentives, but how can they best fit your business?

Back in March 2023, our colleague Doug Picklyk—editor of HPAC Magazine—was joined by Stephanie Shrum—program manager with Canadian Apprenticeship Forum—to share information about the Canadian Apprenticeship Service program, which provides $5000 cash to employers who take on first-year apprentices… $10,000 when that apprentice is from an “equity-deserving group”.

Stephanie walks us through the program’s details, explaining who qualifies for grants, the application process, which skilled trades are included, etc.

Doug also welcomed Brett Butler, owner of Aaron Machine Shop, who provided his perspective as an employer that took advantage of the Canadian Apprenticeship Service program. Brett discusses how he used the grant, some of the employer training that was involved, and his overall positive experience.

Following Stephanie’s and Brett’s discussions, Doug leads his guests through a robust Q&A session with questions from a highly engaged audience.

The Canadian Apprenticeship Service program concludes at the end of March 2024, so don’t delay.
