WorkSafeBC offers resources for Phase 2 restart

May 17, 2020 | By Anthony Capkun

May 17, 2020 – Electrical Contractors Assoc. of British Columbia reports WorkSafeBC has released industry-specific guidance and resources for employers resuming operations as part of Phase 2 of the provincial government’s Restart Plan.

WorkSafeBC’s GUIDELINES include everything from assessing the risk at your workplace and implementing measures to reduce that risk to developing communication plans, training, mental health and more.

“To complement the protocols for specific industries, WorkSafeBC has also developed a COVID-19 Safety Plan template, which will guide you through a six-step process for resuming operations,” reports ECABC’s Deborah Cahill.

WorkSafeBC reminds employers they do not need to submit their safety plan for review or approval, says Cahill. “WorkSafeBC Prevention Officers will, however, begin a province-wide verification and inspection initiative to ensure that employers have their plans in place, and are keeping their workers safe.”

The British Columbia Construction Safety Alliance, meantime, has published a number of helpful guidelines for construction sites. Besides obvious measures for facilitating physical distancing and avoiding touching common objects, the alliance also suggests avoiding ridesharing/carpooling and cleaning out jobsite trailers.
