The ZigBee Alliance and IPSO (IP for Smart Objects) Alliance will collaborate on home area networks (HANs) through ZigBee IP specifications and Smart Energy 2.0 standards.
The goal is to expand HANs by using IP technology to create wireless
communications between utility companies and common household devices.
“By using IP technology, ZigBee Smart Energy will give utilities more
flexibility in future smart grid deployments,” says Bob Heile, chairman
of the ZigBee Alliance.
Smart Energy should “improve energy efficiency by allowing consumers to
choose interoperable products from different manufacturers” as a means
to better manage their energy consumption. It also allows energy
providers “to drive greater energy management and efficiency, while
responding to changing government requirements”.
