July 3, 2018 — According to Hilti, its new laser range meter PD-CS allows users to digitize the entire measuring process.

Using an integrated laser module to capture and save measurement data directly onto photographs taken by its internal digital camera, the meter eliminates the need for multiple device, the company says.

The Hilti PD-CS allows the user to measure distances to 656 ft. with an accuracy of ±.04 in. and add context to store data with pictures and/or text. Collected information can be shared in a PDF report or spreadsheet using Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or a Micro USB connection.

With two 5 MP cameras with zooming capabilities, the meter can locate a target outdoors or at long distances, and the user can take direct and indirect measurements, as well as calculate area and volume, among other applications.

Using an Android-based technology, the PD-CS has a colour touch screen that is usable with work globes on, and has 8GB of memory to store over 6,000 measurements with photos. The unit also has an integrated Li-Ion battery with a 10-hour battery life.
