Freightliner Custom Chassis readies S2G liquid propane-fuelled chassis

March 20, 2013 | By Anthony Capkun

March 19, 2013 – After an initial launch in 2012, Freightliner Custom Chassis Corp. (FCCC) detailed its plans for the 2013 market debut of its S2G chassis at the Work Truck Show 2013. This will provide the industry with the only factory-installed liquid propane gas (LPG) engine available to the medium-duty truck market, says FCCC. The company plans to roll out a select series of S2G chassis to customers this spring, begin taking customer orders this summer, then deliver full production models by early fall. Built on FCCC’s S2 chassis, the S2G 8-liter, 350hp engine promises lower operational costs and reduced emissions without sacrificing payload capability or performance. Like its diesel counterpart, the front-engine S2G utilizes the Freightliner M2 cab, which features a sloped, forward-tilting hood for better visibility and easier engine access. It has a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 33,000 lb and comes equipped with an Allison 2300 automatic transmission with PTO provision.
