The results were recently announced at Hydro Ottawa’s Annual Employee Forum and Recognition Event where employees were honoured for workplace achievements and community involvement.
The funds were derived from employee donations and company fundraising events, including a golf tournament, online auction and the result of designated days whereby crews donated portions of their overtime pay. For every dollar raised by employees, Hydro Ottawa matched by allocating corporate donations to Hydro Ottawa’s Brighter Tomorrows Fund—a community investment program designed to support frontline agencies that serve people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, to invest in energy-efficient technologies or products.
“Every year, we continue to outperform and surpass the previous year’s amazing campaign. That’s because our employees understand just how important the United Way’s work is”, said Bryce Conrad, president and CEO of Hydro Ottawa. “Their generosity, whether it be financial giving or volunteering their time in the community is second-to-none. I’m grateful and humbled to be part of an organization with such caring and engaged people.”
In 2014, Hydro Ottawa’s workplace campaign raised $254,427 and in total the utility said its workplace campaigns have raised more than $2 million since 2001.
